Emily has always struggled to unite two different sides of herself—one is high-intensity and social, while the other is introverted and just a little misanthropic. Unsurprisingly, she is a fiction writer. After graduating from University of California, Santa Barbara with a degree in Comparative Literature and French, she cut her teeth at various Los Angeles literary publications and publishers and even took a remote job in literary curriculum development before joining finding Career Contessa. Career Contessa fortunately encourages her to both embrace the happy feminist side of herself that wants to empower other women, and continue to work creatively on her own. Her journalistic and critical work appears in publications such as Flaunt, Los Angeles Review of Books, LA Mag, Molossus, VegNews, and World Literary Today. Her fiction and poetry appear in Artillery Magazine, Harlequin Creature, The Nervous Breakdown, Midnight Breakfast, and in her chapbook John Travolta Considers His Odds (Whitehorse & Slaughter, April 2016).
Emily believes that with the right attitude and a little organization, the many different elements of our lives—work, creativity, relationships—can all be fortified. She sometimes runs writing workshops out of her house or the bar around the corner in Echo Park, Los Angeles—maybe you’ll run into her.
